Storyline

Coming off her gold medal victory in the 100 meter race at the 2011 Pan Arab Games, Iraqi sprinter Dana Hussein Abdul-Razzaq now has her eyes set on the 2012 London Olympic Games with hopes of taking a place on the winners' podium.

The native of Baghdad started her career in 2004 and she has participated in several Asian and Arab championships. Recently, the Iraqi flying woman earned the title of the fastest Arab woman when she won the gold in the 100 meter race at the 2011 Pan Arab Games in Doha, Qatar.

"I'm so proud of being the fastest Arab woman and getting this gold medal. It is new achievement, because no Iraqi woman had ever won a gold medal since the 1970s. I'm the only sprinter who could get a gold medal and to raise my country's name up," said Dana Hussein.

Dana will soon participate in the Asian Indoor Championships and the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in preparation for the London Olympic Games later this year.

"The London Olympics is very soon, there will be qualifying test a month before the event, and I already clocked 11'42 as required for that qualifying test, and I already got a pass from the federation to participate in London Olympics. If I can enter the second round, that will be a big achievement," said Dana Hussein.

Her coach Mahmood Ahmed believes the speedster, who specializes in the 100, 200 and 400 meter races, is not only a champion, but also a very talented sprinter.

"There were some technical training problems regarding outdoor and indoor courts, but the Track and Field Federation could tackle all those problems, and the head of the federation promised us to provide whatever Dana needs," he said.

To participate in the Olympics is the dream of every athlete around the world, and for an Iraqi champion like Dana Hussein, participating in the London Olympics will be marked as a career achievement.
