"The free trade agreement is very important for us in Israel. Again, much more than it is important for China. And I think we are lucky that China added us to the list of negotiations at such an early stage. But for us, it's a major issue. It will enable Israeli companies to export easier to China. It will enable us, as the public, to enjoy better product and cheaper product from China, which is again, in our benefit."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Matan Vilnai, former Israeli Ambassador to China:
"The Chinese are very important because of their power. And it's only a matter of time before they'll be much more involved in the Middle East. You can't see it now, but it's only a matter of time that they'll be much more involved in the Middle East. As much as 60 percent of the energy of China comes from Middle East's gas and oil, and it's very important from Saudi Arabia from Iran, and other places -- the Gulf -- and therefore, it's a very balanced relation between China and Israel."

Storyline

Managing Director of Israel-China Chamber of Commerce Ilan Maor, said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's three-day official visit to China is a very positive move.

"Meeting with leadership is tremendously important. Touching issues that are on the table, including the free trade agreement discussions, including our R&D cooperation, technological cooperation, including supporting investment from China to Israel. All those issues are very significant to the Israeli industry, Israeli economy. And in this regard, the visit is very positive," said Maor.

As Israel and China will sign economic agreements during Netanyahu's visit, Maor has also noted that better and cheaper Chinese products will come to people's life if a free trade agreement can be reached between the two countries.

"The free trade agreement is very important for us in Israel. Again, much more than it is important for China. And I think we are lucky that China added us to the list of negotiations at such an early stage. But for us, it's a major issue. It will enable Israeli companies to export easier to China. It will enable us, as the public, to enjoy better product and cheaper product from China, which is again, in our benefit," added Maor.

Besides, former Israeli Ambassador to China Matan Vilnai, has also pointed out that China will get more involved in Middle East affairs and said Israel-China relationship is a "balanced relation".

"The Chinese are very important because of their power. And it's only a matter of time before they'll be much more involved in the Middle East. You can't see it now, but it's only a matter that they'll be much more involved in the Middle East. As much as 60 percent of the energy of China comes from Middle East's gas and oil, and it's very important from Saudi Arabia from Iran, and other places -- the Gulf -- and therefore, it's a very balanced relation between China and Israel," said Vilnai.
