China will continue to follow closely the latest development following the death of a man from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang on Friday.

Geng made the remarks in response to a report that Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Thursday that the man from DPRK who died in Malaysia was Kim Jong Nam.

Malaysian police earlier identified the man as Kim Chol, according to his passport, but Zahid said the man was indeed Kim Jong Nam.

Geng told a daily press briefing that the Chinese side is aware of relevant reports and will continue to keep an eye on the developments.

By Friday, Malaysian police have arrested three suspects, including a 26-year-old Malaysian man, and two women, who hold an Indonesian passport, and a Vietnamese passport respectively.

The police are hunting for three other suspects who remain at large.
