"We've made remarkable progress in intelligent manufacturing and outlined the framework of its standard system. Breakthroughs have been achieved in the research and development of some key techniques and equipments as well as their application. Some new patterns typical of intelligent manufacturing have been replicated and widely used.The Internet-based platforms for mass entrepreneurship and innovation are growing rapidly. By the end of 2016, 61.8 percent of industrial enterprises in China had used digital design tools and 45.4 percent of them had digitalized the control of their key production procedures. We registered a rapid growth in such sectors as robot, mobile Internet, cloud computing, big data, etc. The market of new energy vehicles, in particular, witnessed an exponential increase and ranks No.1 in terms of both production and sales."

Storyline

China's manufacturing and communication industries made steady progress in 2016, according to a briefing by the State Council Information Office on Friday.

Miao Wei, Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology, briefed on the general performance of China's industries in 2016. He focused on four points: innovation, intelligent manufacturing, Internet and new industries.

"China has maintained its position as the largest manufacturing country in the world, and is a major cyber state. Its production of 220 among more than 500 industrial products tops the world, while 56 Chinese manufacturing enterprises have been listed among the Fortune 500. We have built the world's largest 4G network. The number of Internet users in China increased to 731 million by the end of 2016, as compared with 457 million in 2012. Four Chinese Internet enterprises have figured among the top ten in the world in terms of market capitalization," Miao said.

Miao said remarkable progress has been made in intelligent manufacturing and that breakthroughs have been achieved in the research and development of major techniques and equipments, for instance, Shenzhou-series spacecraft, manned submersible, high-speed train, nuclear power plants, and various communication equipment.

Miao noted that the Internet-based platforms for mass entrepreneurship and innovation are growing rapidly in China. And by the end of 2016, 61.8 percent of industrial enterprises in China had used digital design tools and 45.4 percent of them had digitalized the control of their key production procedures.
