Storyline

Architects from Cuba and the United States gathered in Havana, Cuba's capital, to discuss future creative exchange with each other.

The architects from both nations were brought together by the American Institute of Architects design seminar which was held from April 17 until April 23.

Over 200 experts from 15 countries participated in the event and around 165 U.S. architects and experts. The delegation of the U.S. President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, visited Cuba from Monday to Thursday and also joined the seminar.

Cuban architectural experts will introduce their experience of maintaining and repairing old buildings while U.S. experts will share their design experience during the event.

"[Now] we have a chance to communicate with U.S. experts, which has been much more inaccessible in the past than it is now. [We] hope the two sides can reach common goals and projects in the future." said Gustavo Lopez, deputy director with Museum of Contemporary Art.

"One thing that we expect to realize is communication with young [Cuban] architects so that they can have a chance to work in our studios in America to complete a project together. Likewise, we can carry out a project here, such as repairing a building, a students' or architects' project or even repairing an architectural heritage site," said Geo Darder, the founder and president of copperbridge foundation.

The U.S. delegation will visit some of Cuba's most famous historical structures like the Great Theater of Havana and the National Capitol Building under construction in Havana.
